Our Adventure to South Dakota

Tuesday night, 8/26 we left St. Cloud for South Dakota. Both David and Allison were very excited for "Ca-cation"! We packed up the car (renting one first that would give us 35 miles to the gallon) and headed out West. Our first destination was Sioux Falls, which is where we stayed for the night.

That next morning we woke up and started out for our first destination....The Corn Palace! Allison and David were very impressed by the Corn Palace! They were not so impress by the lack of Corn Suckers at the gift shop. Allison decided she didn't want a "Hot Butter" flavored sucker and opted for the Blow Pop instead (very smart choice).

We soon all hopped in the car and were off to Wall Drug!! David was rather excited for his "Free Glass of Ice Water". We stopped at the pizza parlor for a pizzan and enough time to walk through the endless aisles of Wall Drug items that are soon to be found in Garage Sales nationwide. Once we had our fill of Wall Drug we continued on to the next destination.

We were all very excited to get to our Resort (Palmer Gulch) but as soon as we settled in we were off to Mt. Rushmore. We sat and watched Mt. Rushmore as the sun went down. David thought the names of the presidents were very funny....Especially Abe Lincoln! :-)

That evening when we got back we visited the fudge shop at our resort....Oreo Cookie Fudge...very good!

By Thursday morning we were all geared up to visit Bedrock City...Yaba Daba Doo! We loved riding the train around Fred and Wilma's city...it was such a great time! We then decided to go to Bear Country as we drove around the homes of large Grizzly Bears! Several bears got very close to our car...it was pretty cool! We then got out of car so we could see the baby bear cubes. Allison couldn't believe all "cute" they were up close!

You probably think that would be enough for the Volante's but...Oh No! Friday morning we all got up very early....packed up the car and headed off to....Reptile Gardens! Snakes, Lizards and Crocodiles...what else you ask....Allison's favorite the Praire Dogs!

Wow...by the time we all got back in the car we knew there was only one more place to go....HOME! So we all nessled back in our car so we could start the 9 hour trip back to St. Cloud so we could all relax before our next great adventure! But, not before stopping one more time at the 1880 Town for a bit of lunch at the 1950 Diner.

A Day with the Krebsbach's

Sunday, August 24th we had a get together with the Krebsbach side. It was great to spend time with everyone as well as watch all of our kids playing together. We all commented on how much the family has grown over the years! Getting all of us together for a picture has become more challenging...as you'll see from the pictures!

Enjoying a day at the Zoo

Sunday August 16th our family spent the day at Como Zoo. We started our day with a picnic lunch. The weather was perfect and the food was great! We all agree that David ate the most food (including chocolate chip cookies)!

As soon as our lunch was over we made it over to the zoo. We were all anxious to see the animals. David enjoyed watching the Giraffes, but Allison couldn't wait to see the large kitties! The Tigers and Lions all had the right idea; laying in the hot summer sun taking naps!

Uncle Jason and Aunt Jen walked, Uncle Jeff and Sarah walked with us through the Butterfly Garden. Uncle Jeff and Sarah. Daddy's favorite was the Apes. We think David's favorite was enjoying the Bright Red Slushie that Papa bought him (and Allison as well). A slushie never tasted as good as it did that afternoon in the hot August sun!

We ended the day with dinner at Schroeders in St. Paul. It was a very fun day. We all enjoyed each others company and are looking forward to our next Krebsbach Family Outing!

Playing with our Cousins

We were so excited to meet our new cousin Alyana!

Mom and Dad took us to see Alayna and Jon (and their parents too).

Both of us enjoyed holding Alayna but our favorite was splashing in the pool with Jon.

We were very excited to find out we were spending the night and had a sleep over! We all had such a great time. Looking forward to our next play date with Jon and Alyana.

Hanging with the Monkeys

We're still talking about the funfilled weekend we just had!

Saturday we took a day trip up to our land/cabin. We stopped at the Silo Ice Cream Parlor (in Motley) on the way home and enjoyed yummy ice cream cones. David especially loved that the cotton candy ice cream turned his tongue blue.

Sunday we went to the Minnesota Zoo. We enjoyed watching the Monkeys swinging and climbing on trees. The weather was very warm... we were tempted at times to jump in the water and swim along with the Sea Otters just to cool off!! Instead, we decided to enjoy Snow Cones and Frozen Lemonade (a much better idea). David was bummed when his Snow Cone fell; but quickly cheered up when he realized their was bubble gum in the bottom of his cup!
We had so much fun watching all of the different animals. David loved the Grizzley Bears and Allison enjoyed watching the Muskrats. Our favorite was definitely the baby Monkeys!
